3/10/26: THE MID-CURRITUCK BRIDGE: A BILLION-DOLLAR-PLUS PROJECT

There is no relief in sight for the summertime weekend congestion on N.C. Hwy. 12 in Southern Shores. The photo above depicts a typical Saturday backup on the Duck Road section of Hwy. 12.

The Southern Shores Beacon is no longer in a position to research and write investigative stories. We now aspire to give our readers a heads-up on important issues and to direct them to where they may obtain more information.

For a thorough analysis of the current financial status of the Mid-Currituck Bridge, see Catherine Kozak’s excellent March 9 article in the Coastal Review, at https://coastalreview.org/2026/03/new-cost-study-puts-proposed-mid-currituck-bridge-at-1-2b/.

Ms. Kozak reports that the estimated construction costs for the bridge now “hover around $1.2 billion.”
