Since the launch of The Beacon in April 2018, our modus operandi has changed. The Beacon is exclusively the work product of Ann Sjoerdsma, a professional journalist and former attorney who has a 50-plus-year history with Southern Shores that dates back to her childhood. Ann does the reporting, the writing, and the editing. She has a circle of advisers to whom she turns for counsel, but not a 10-person advisory board, as was initially contemplated.
Since its debut, The Beacon has taken on an identity as a watchdog for the Town of Southern Shores and its property owners. The Beacon prides itself on its fact-based research and commentary and on its breaking-news reporting.
We thank you for reading The Beacon and welcome your tips, suggestions, and other comments.
